Police Division
Functions
- Administrative matters of the officers in the Sri Lanka Police Service that should be decided at Ministerial level.
- Handling of the complaints made by the General Public against the officers of the Sri Lanka Police.
- Answering to the oral and written questions raised by the Members of the Parliament relating to the matters of the Sri Lanka Police Service.
- Attending to the problems of the officers in the Sri Lanka Police.
- Handling the petitions submitted by the General Public against the police officers to the Public Petitions Committee of the Parliament.
- Attending to the cases instituted before the High Court, Appeal Court and Human Rights Commission by the police officers against the Government.
- Attending to the damages & losses to the assets of the Sri Lanka Police.
Civil Security Division
Functions
- Implementation of the Firearms Ordinance as amended by the Act. No. 22 of 1996.
- Implementation of the Explosives Ordinance No. 21 of 1956 as amended by the Act. No. 14 of 1978 and the regulations under it.
- Implementation of the Regulation of Private Security Agencies Act. No. 45 of 1985 and the Regulations made under it.
- Implementation & Supervision of the Home Guard Service established under the Mobilization of Supplementary Force of Act..
- Implementation & control of the Training in Security project.
- Granting Security clearance for the importation of communication equipment board casting service & communication centers for civil matters.

Finance and Accounts Division
Functions
- Assisting the Chief Accounting Officer for the effective and efficient management of financial resources of the Ministry of Public Security, Law and Order.
- Formulating and implementing the annual financial plan for the Ministry as well as the institutions under the purview of the Ministry.
- Distributing the financial resources among the institutions under the Ministry and, monitoring and supervising their utilization,
- Preparing the financial forecast for inflows and outflows and ensure timely flow of funds.
- Co-ordinating and implementing the tender procedure in the Ministry and as well as in the institutions under the Ministry.
- Co-ordinating activities on behalf of the Ministry with the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) and Committee on Public Enterprise (COPE).
- Reviewing of the Financial and Physical performance against the annual plan of the Ministry and the institutions under the purview of the Ministry periodically and, effecting remedial action.
- Supervision and co-ordination of the preparation of annual accounts and submit them to relevant agencies on schedule.

Administration Division
Functions
Administration Division of this Ministry has engaged in following functions under the Administration, Management and Control in the year 2002.
- Administration of the functions of the Ministry.
- Deployment of the employees in line division and departments and obtaining an efficient & productive service from them.
- Human resource development function - staff training and handling matters pertaining local & foreign scholarships to the officers in order to enhance the productivity in Administrative functions.
- Implementation of various programmes for welfare of the employees.
- Introduction of modern office equipment to the staff to regularize and the office functions.
- Maintenance of Vehicles and other resources.

Internal and External Identification Division
Handling administrative and policy matters relating to the following Departments.
- Department of Immigration and Emigration.
- Department of Registration of Persons.
- Department of Censes and Statistics.
- National Dangerous Drugs control Board.
Functions
- Preparation and coordination of policy issues on the above departments.
- Administrative and establishment matters of the above departments.
- Bilateral agreements between the countries regarding human smuggling, drug trafficking and human rights issues.
- Coordinating the working group meetings.
- Legislative processes in relation to the enactment of new Acts and amendments of the existing Acts.
- Coordination and cooperation on international and local conferences and working group meetings.

Internal Audit and Investigation Division.
Functions.
The primary objective of the Internal Audit and Investigation Division is help the management of the Ministry to maintain checks and balance by conducting concurrent monitoring of its activities.
